7.45pm Barcelona will respond to their failure to lure Phillipe Coutinho to the Nou Camp by going after Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri, according to the Sun.

The Ivorian, who has been capped 14 times by his country, has a £36.5m release clause in his contract, a fee which Barca would be happy to meet in lieu of the £198m windfall from Neymar\’s move to PSG.

7.10pm English champions Chelsea bag their first league win…. 

6.45pm Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal are preparing to do battle for the signature of PSG\’s Julian Draxler after the French club made it known that he was surplus to requirements at the Parc de Princes, according to the Mirror.

The German international made just 17 appearances in a frustrating first season in the French capital and PSG said his chances are likely to be further limited by the club\’s summer arrivals.

6.25pm Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has offered little hope to the Newcastle fans about impending transfer arrivals.

Asked directly if that game had highlighted that requirement, Benitez replied: “I don’t know,” and he offered little extra when pushed.

“No news. I haven’t read the newspapers, we will have to wait. Obviously we are working behind the scenes trying to do things but I don’t know what our position is at the moment,” he said.

5.55pm Gianluca Di Marzio is claiming that Nikola Kalinic will under go a medical at Milan with a view of completing his move to the Rossoneri.

3.10pm Tony Pulis insists West Brom will learn from previous transfer errors by prioritising quality over quantity in the final days of this window.

Having signed Jay Rodriguez, Ahmed Hegazi and Gareth Barry – all of whom featured in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Burnley – Pulis wants more additions.

“We have to bring in players that are going to improve us and give us competition; that’s what we need,” Pulis said.

“They have to be better than what we’ve got – that’s the most important thing.

“In years gone by this club have signed a lot of players who have just been signed, I think, for the sake of filling spaces. We can’t do that and we must not do that.”

3.00pm Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare has played down Jamie Vardy\’s ankle scare as the Foxes\’ injury list grows.

The England striker was forced off in added time of Saturday\’s 2-0 win over Brighton at the King Power Stadium.

“I have just left Ward 10 in there with a few receiving treatment,” said Shakespeare.

“Jamie obviously had a few tussles today and has an ankle heavily strapped with an ice pack on it.

“I will go and see how he is shortly but knowing Jamie he will be fine. He does have those battles but we wouldn\’t change him, would we?”

2.30pm Inter are close to sending Brazilian striker Gabriel Santos on loan at Sporting Lisbon.

Gabigol is keen to resurrect his career after a frustrating first season at San Siro.

2.15pm Arsene Wenger wants to slim down his Arsenal squad before making any further additions. 

Some of the north London club\’s shortcomings, particularly defensively, were exposed as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at Stoke in the Premier League on Saturday. 

Gunners manager Wenger has not ruled out more signings before the transfer window closes at the end of the month, but his immediate priority is to move out unwanted players.

“I expect to sell players first,” the Frenchman said.

“We have too many players. It is not manageable. Many clubs are in this situation – that is why the transfer market is quiet. 

“We have 33 players at the moment. We have too many players.”

9.32pm Jurgen Klopp admitted the Philippe Coutinho situation “is not easy for anybody” at the moment as his Liverpool future remains uncertain.

He told Sky Sports: “At the moment, as you can imagine, it\’s not too easy for anybody, but we have to be concentrated on the job on the pitch, and I really think the boys did brilliant.”

Asked what Liverpool will do if they have to reintegrate Coutinho into the squad if he doesn\’t move to Barcelona, Klopp said: “I don\’t think that it makes sense to think too much ahead, what can happen and when.

“The situation is like it is, and it has not changed, that\’s all I know. When there is no other decision possible – on the 31st of August – then we have to think about everything new.”

7.17pm Sam Clucas missed Hull’s defeat at QPR on Saturday because “he is preparing to play for another club”, manager Leonid Slutsky has confirmed.

The left-sided player has been a target for both Swansea and Burnley in the current window, with the Swans making an approach in the last few days.

6.57pm Malta international forward Jean Paul Farrugia will grace the field from the initial whistle as he is included in the starting line-up for FC Chiasso in their game against FC Wil. 

6.48pm Serie A club SPAL announce Marco Borriello as one of their latest signings ahead of the new campaign in Italy\’s top-flight..

6.44pm According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Udinese are edging closer to sign Benfica\’s fullback Pedro Pereira.

Pereira has already been in Italy after his stint at Serie A club Sampdoria in the past seasons. 

6.28pm Sky sources understand Tottenham are close to completing a deal to sign Southampton goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga.

The 25-year-old is being brought in as third-choice goalkeeper to provide extra competition for Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm.

Spurs had considered doing a permanent deal Espanyol’s Pau Lopez, who spent last season on loan at White Hart Lane.

Gazzaniga spent last season on loan at Spanish side Rayo Vallecano, keeping 11 clean sheets in 32 appearances.

5.37pm Burnley are set to land Leeds United striker Chris Wood for £15m, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Clarets are closing in on the New Zealand international, who scored 27 goals in the Sky Bet Championship last term.

The Daily Star, meanwhile, claim the 25-year-old is prepared to reject a new contract at Elland Road in the hope of securing the move to Turf Moor.

5.14pm Atletico Madrid have offered €20m (£18.3m) to sign Gremio forward Luan, according to Brazilian newspaper Hora Zero.

The 24-year-old is also the subject of interest from elsewhere, with Spartak Moscow and Sampdoria keen on securing his services.

However, it appears as though Atleti are leading the chase to sign the Brazilian, with the player’s agent revealing that there have been meetings between Gremio and the Spanish capital club.

If Atleti seal the deal, they will leave Luan at Gremio until next season.

5.13pm Manchester City will not be held to ransom over Jonny Evans, according to the Guardian.

Pep Guardiola is understood to have identified other options at centre-back should West Brom not agree with their valuation of the Northern Irishman.

Sky Sports News understands the Baggies have rejected a bid in the region of £18m for Evans, who Tony Pulis has revealed they are under no pressure to sell.

4.41pm Valencia defender Joao Cancelo is set to depart from Valencia after bidding farewell to his now former fans on his Instagram profile.

The Portugal U21 defender is on the verge of a move to Italy, where Inter are waiting for him. 

4.31pm Despite reported interest from Arsenal, Marco Asensio is set to receive a pay-rise when he signs a new contract with Real Madrid, going from €3.5m-a-season to €4.5m after tax, reports Marca.

The new contract will also include a €500m (£458.6m) release clause and will run to 2023.

4.11pm Real Madrid have rejected a big-money offer from Juventus for Mateo Kovacic, reports AS.

Kovacic has been in fine form during pre-season, impressing in both legs of Real Madrid’s 5-1 Spanish Supercopa win over Barcelona.

His performances have not gone unnoticed and AS report long-term admirers Juventus made a bid worth around €75m (£68.8m) for the Croatia midfielder.

However, Real Madrid flatly rejected the offer a few days ago and insist the former Inter Milan man is not for sale.

4.03pm Barcelona have activated their €9m (£8.3m) option to sign Colombia defender Yerry Mina, reports Sport.

The Catalans want to bolster their defensive options and will bring in Mina, who is on the books at Brazilian side Palmeiras.

The 22-year-old will remain at Palmeiras until January before moving to the Camp Nou, although he could spend the duration of the 17/18 season on loan at Palmeiras.

3.34pm The other Maltese international pursuing his career in England, Luke Gambin, will return on the bench for this evening\’s game as Luton Town face Colchester United in League Two.

9.37pm Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers says he is “absolutely delighted” midfielder Stuart Armstrong has signed a two-year deal.

“For me I just wanted to ensure the player was happy and the club was happy and, if they both can find that, then I\’m happy,” he said.

“He is a player I have admired a long time so to have him here for two years is great for us. It gives him a little bit of peace of mind and now he can focus on his football.

“I felt he always wanted to sign and it was a case of getting it over the line so well done to him, his agent and the club for getting it sorted.”

8.18pm Jose Mourinho expects Manchester United to reach the end of the month without landing his fourth transfer target.

Asked ahead of Saturday\’s trip to Swansea whether he expected further signings, the manager said: “I don\’t think we are, unless something happened that put us in the market again.

“I told Mr Woodward that obviously my plans were four, but I also told him \’be cool, no pressure from me, do what you think is best for the club\’.

“We will be together again for another transfer window in January and another next summer, so there is no pressure from me at all. I\’m happy with the squad we have and I\’m ready to go without the fourth player.”

8.00pm Davinson Sanchez is a Colombia international and has signed a six-year contract with Tottenham until 2023.

The defender moved to Ajax from Colombian side Atletico Nacional in June 2016 and made 47 appearances for the Dutch side, scoring seven goals.

7.59pm West Ham have announced that Winston Reid has signed a new long-term contract with the club.

The centre-back has put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at the London Stadium until summer 2023, meaning he could potentially spend 13 years in east London.

The New Zealand international was voted Hammer of the Year in 2013 and made his 150th Premier League appearance last weekend.

7.18pm Eintracht Frankfurt have announced the signing of midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng on a three-year deal after his Las Palmas contract was terminated by mutual consent.

The Berlin-born Ghana international was keen to return to Germany for personal reasons, with Frankfurt finishing 11th in the Bundesliga last season.

7.00pm Barcelona this afternoon placed a new bid of £113m with Liverpool for Philippe Coutinho, Sky Sports News understands.

That fee could rise to £118m depending on Coutinho\’s appearances at the Nou Camp. However, we understand Liverpool have immediately rejected Barcelona\’s offer.

6.45pm Sky sources understand Patrick Roberts will join Celtic on a season-long loan next week.

The winger has spent the last 18 months on loan at Celtic Park, with another temporary stay set to be completed in the coming days.

6.23pm Frank de Boer has admitted that Crystal Palace are interested in Leipzig forward Olivier Burke.

The 20-year-old Scottish winger is free to leave German side Leipzig after joining them for £15million last summer.

He said: “Burke is a very promising, young Scottish player. It\’s always interesting to look at, but we are focusing on other players, too.”

6.22pm Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe would not be drawn on whether he could make a move for England U21 winger Demarai Gray.

Cuschieri boasts a huge experience abroad having featured in the UEFA Women\’s Champions League with the Cypriot club and also managing to find the net on more than one occasion.

In Malta, Cuschieri spearheaded Birkirkara to various titles including the championship and she also played in Europe with the Stripes. 

She is one of the key players in Mark Gatt\’s Malta WNT selection as well, having been part of the national pool since the age of 14.

1pm Gżira United have confirmed the signing of Roderick Briffa. The 35-year-old former Valletta midfielder put pen to paper on a five-year contract.

12.45pm Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong has signed a new-two year contract.

The 25-year-old had been linked with a move to England, with his existing deal due to expire at the end of this season, but he is thrilled to have committed his future to the treble winners until summer 2019.

Armstrong told the club’s website: “I am delighted to sign this new contract with Celtic. I have had a tremendous time at the club so far and it has been a period in my footballing career which I have enjoyed immensely.”

12.30pm Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez says the club are in talks to sign Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho.

On Thursday, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp said “nothing had changed” despite comments from Barca\’s general manager Josep Segura suggesting a deal for the Brazilian was moving closer to completion.

Barcelona have already had two bids – the latest being £90.4m – rejected by Liverpool this summer, prompting Coutinho to hand in a transfer request at Anfield.

12.15pm Genoa have signed defender Luca Rossettini from Torino, the Serie A club have announced. 

The 32-year-old, who has also played for Padova, Siena, Cagliari and Bologna, could be available for Genoa\’s opening league fixture at Sassuolo on Sunday.
In a statement on their official website, the Rossoblu said Rossettini passed his medical on Thursday.

12.00pm Tottenham Hotspur are close to completing their first signing of the transfer window after agreeing a deal for Ajax Amsterdam centre back Davinson Sanchez, according to multiple British media reports.

Tottenham were likely to pay a club record fee of 42 million pounds ($54.2 million) for the 21-year-old, who scored six goals in 32 league appearances for Ajax last season and received the club\’s player of the year award, the reports said.

11.40am Robert Snodgrass has been informed by West Ham that he can leave the club just eight months after joining the Hammers.

11.00am West Brom manager Tony Pulis has confirmed that the Baggies have turned down an offer for Jonny Evans.

“We\’ve turned down an offer for Jonny. He\’ll have a late fitness test today. It\’s his hamstring.

“We don\’t want to sell Jonny and we don\’t need to sell him. It would have to be a very, very good offer.”

10.30am Atletico Madrid want to bring Diego Costa back, according to Atletico star Gabi.

He said: “He is in a complicated situation. He has already spoken publicly, but in the end they have to reach agreements. From what I know, Atletico Madrid want to bring him back and he wants to come, but Chelsea are in the middle and we cannot enter there.”

The Italian capital club have been unsuccessful in their pursuit of Mahrez thus far and have now turned their attentions to other targets.

8.37pm Watford manager Marco Silva says no deal is in place yet to sign Andre Carrillo on loan from Benfica.

But the Hornets boss admitted that Carrillo is “a player I know very well”, having worked with the Peru international during his time at Sporting Lisbon.

The 26-year-old Carrillo is currently with Benfica but has been strongly linked with a loan move to Vicarage Road and Silva confirmed that he is hoping to acquire further reinforcements.

8.16pm Burnley manager Sean Dyche says he is looking into the European market for a replacement for Andre Gray.

He said : “We haven\’t got the support (scouting system) as some of the big clubs so when we do go into Europe it is important we have as much information as possible.

“There are certain situations we do have information on and there are certain situations we look at.”

7.24pm Fiorentina youth Federico Chiesa is edging closer in renewing with Stefano Pioli\’s side, waving off the interest of big clubs like Chelsea who were reportedly interest in the acquisition of the Italian. 

6.44pm Sky sources understand that West Brom are interested in signing Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer.

They haven\’t yet made an official bid, but the Baggies have approached Spurs to ask whether they are prepared to sell. The news comes after Manchester City saw an £18m bid for Jonny Evans rejected.

Pulis is adamant he doesn\’t want to lose his captain, and is keen on strengthening his defensive options whether or not Evans stays.

We\’ve also been told that Stoke City enquired about Wimmer\’s availability earlier in the window, but withdrew their interest after the £7m signing of Bruno Martins Indi from Porto.

6.19pm Malta international Andre Schembri is set to feature from the start for Apollon Limassol as they host Danish side FC Midtyjlland in the Europa League play-off round.

Schembri is on hot form for his side after scoring three goals in four European appearances and the club will rely mostly on him to secure them a prestigius access to the group stage of Europe\’s second best club competition.

5.45pm Serie A side Genoa are looking to bring in fullback Achraaf Lazaar from Newcastle and are also evaluating Christian Ansaldi as plan B. 

5.30pm Brighton and Hove Albion trio Lewis Dunk, Shane Duffy and Anthony Knockaert have signed new long-term contracts at the Premier League club.

Defender Dunk, who is Brighton\’s current longest-serving player, and winger Knockaert signed five-year deals to stay at the club until 2022, while Ireland international defender Duffy signed a four-year contract until 2021.

5.00pm Barcelona have been dealt another blow after their crushing 5-1 aggregate defeat to Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup with the news that Luis Suarez will be out for around four weeks with a knee injury.

A statement from the Uruguay national team on Thursday said that the striker had suffered trauma in his right knee during Barca\’s 2-0 defeat to Madrid the previous day and would be out for between four and five weeks. The Liga side said in a later statement he would be out for four weeks.

Asked what Liverpool will do if they have to reintegrate Coutinho into the squad if he doesn’t move to Barcelona, Klopp said: “I don’t think that it makes sense to think too much ahead, what can happen and when.

12.45pm Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong has signed a new-two year contract.

The 25-year-old had been linked with a move to England, with his existing deal due to expire at the end of this season, but he is thrilled to have committed his future to the treble winners until summer 2019.

Armstrong told the club’s website: “I am delighted to sign this new contract with Celtic. I have had a tremendous time at the club so far and it has been a period in my footballing career which I have enjoyed immensely.”

12.30pm Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez says the club are in talks to sign Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho.

On Thursday, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp said “nothing had changed” despite comments from Barca’s general manager Josep Segura suggesting a deal for the Brazilian was moving closer to completion.

Barcelona have already had two bids – the latest being £90.4m – rejected by Liverpool this summer, prompting Coutinho to hand in a transfer request at Anfield.

Tottenham were likely to pay a club record fee of 42 million pounds ($54.2 million) for the 21-year-old, who scored six goals in 32 league appearances for Ajax last season and received the club’s player of the year award, the reports said.

Defender Dunk, who is Brighton’s current longest-serving player, and winger Knockaert signed five-year deals to stay at the club until 2022, while Ireland international defender Duffy signed a four-year contract until 2021.

5.00pm Barcelona have been dealt another blow after their crushing 5-1 aggregate defeat to Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup with the news that Luis Suarez will be out for around four weeks with a knee injury.

A statement from the Uruguay national team on Thursday said that the striker had suffered trauma in his right knee during Barca’s 2-0 defeat to Madrid the previous day and would be out for between four and five weeks. The Liga side said in a later statement he would be out for four weeks.

Suarez was seen limping towards the end of the game but remained on the pitch, as coach Ernesto Valverde had used his three substitutes.

4.30pm Swansea City can use the funds generated from Gylfi Sigurdsson’s move to Premier League rivals Everton to sign two or three more players, manager Paul Clement said ahead of Saturday’s home game against Manchester United.

“I spoke to them (chairman and owners) last night about what we will do moving forward. Funds are available to strengthen the squad,” Clement told reporters on Thursday.

“It’s a big challenge, no question. We hope we can potentially bring in two or three players to strengthen us in various positions.”

4.00pm Jurgen Klopp has revealed why Andy Robertson is yet to feature for Liverpool after his summer move from Hull.

The left-back didn’t even make the bench for the opening two matches of the season against Watford and Hoffenheim.

And Klopp is quoted by the Liverpool Echo as saying: “Whether he’s overly happy, I didn’t ask, but he’s in a good moment. He has developed really well so far.

“Everything is fine from my side. It’s still early. He came in late and still has to adapt to our style of play and all that stuff. Things will change during the season and I’ve told the players that.”

The former England boss seemingly pulled himself out of the running to replace the sacked Ian Cathro at Tynecastle after it emerged he was ready to take a consultancy role with Maccabi Tel Aviv.

However, McClaren told the Scottish Sun: “I am not committed to going anywhere.

“I’m still an out of work manager looking to get back into the game.

The former Swansea and Liverpool boss said: “Hopefully Stuart will imminently agree a new extension. Hopefully we will announce it in the next 24 to 48 hours which will be absolutely brilliant for us.

3.07pm Barcelona sporting manager Pep Segura has said the club are “close” to signing Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking after Wednesday’s 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup gave their arch rivals a 5-1 aggregate victory, Segura said Barcelona were discussing terms with the attacking duo.

“We are close to Coutinho and Dembele, we are discussing their conditions but we do not know when they will be sealed,” Segura told Spanish television station TV3. “We hope they will be Barcelona players this season.”

Zidane has seen six first-team players, including Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez, leave the Bernabeu this summer, while he has only brought in youngsters Theo Hernandez and Dani Ceballos.

However, the Frenchman is pleased with his squad and says there will be no further sales, although he did admit that anything can happen before August 31.

10.10pm Sky sources understand Leicester City’s bosses are becoming increasingly bemused by what they see as Roma’s attempts to unsettle Riyad Mahrez in the hope they may be able to lure him to Serie A.

Leicester do not want to sell Mahrez, and they’ve rejected three bids so far from the Italian club – the latest of which was around £32m over a week ago, which we’ve been told is still way below Leicester’s valuation of the player.

Reports in Italy suggest Roma are still waiting for a response to that bid. However, Leicester are categorical it was immediately rejected out of hand, and Sky Sports News has been told it’s been made clear to Roma that there will be no more dialogue between the two clubs without a significant increase in the offer.

10.00pm Chelsea are targeting a £15m move for Southampton’s full-back Cedric Soares, according to the Daily Mirror.

The report suggests Antonio Conte is planning on adding three players to his squad before the close of the transfer window.

9.59pm Times of Malta understands that Malta midfielder Ryan Scicluna is set to renew his stay for another year at Birkirkara.

Scicluna, 24, was on trial at Accrington Stanley this summer but had to return to Malta due to an injury which effectively hampered any chance of moving abroad, at least for this season.

He is set to return to action following the international break and is keen to leave a vivid impression of himself before attempting to push for another foreign experience.
